Junior Counselor In Training (CIT) Program is Back at Kids Science Labs

Empowering kids to become leaders through service learning

This summer our beloved Counselor -in-Training program is BACK! Our CIT program is offered at each of our KSL locations, designed for students who have aged out of our Summer Camps (ages 4–12) and are ready for their first leadership experience. This program is open to students ages 12–15, helps build leadership, confidence, teamwork, and empathy while participants assist our youngest campers throughout the day.

Since launching the program in 2012, we’ve trained and inspired hundreds of junior counselors, and we’re excited to welcome a new group each summer.

While the program is open to students with strong academic performance, it is best suited for those who truly enjoy working with younger children. We also love welcoming students who have previously participated in a Kids Science Labs program.

What do CIT Program Students do during the day?

Generally speaking, participants in a CIT Program are doing four things every day in summer camp:

  • Building Leadership Skills - communicating with diverse learners, team collaboration

  • Supporting Student Learning - in classroom educational support

  • Helping engage students during transitions - check-in, opening ceremony, elective classes

  • Learning successful operations of summer camp - outdoor experience, leadership games, preparing materials
